Russell Handy, a distinguished named partner at Potter Handy, LLP, focuses on the firm’s litigation and appellate endeavors. With an impressive portfolio, he has successfully litigated over a thousand cases, conducted numerous trials to triumph, and presented arguments before both state and federal appellate courts on more than 40 occasions, including a pivotal appearance before the California Supreme Court in May of 2009. His academic journey is characterized by excellence and unwavering dedication, graduating magna cum laude with a J.D. from the California Western School of Law after obtaining his B.A. in Liberal Arts from Brigham Young University, where he earned distinction as an associate editor of the Law Review.

A decorated veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Handy‘s valor during Desert Shield and Desert Storm earned him multiple accolades. Following his military service, he clerked for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and imparted his expertise as an adjunct professor at California Western School of Law. His passion for civil litigation blossomed during internships with esteemed entities such as the San Diego Public Defender’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has prosecuted numerous trials, provided appellate counsel on significant cases, and appeared before respected courts, including the Ninth Circuit and the California Supreme Court. Honored for his exceptional contributions, Mr. Handy received the prestigious California Lawyer Magazine’s Attorney of the Year (CLAY) award in 2010 and was recognized as one of San Diego’s “Top Attorneys 2011” by the San Diego Daily Transcript.
